Writing a Novel: Scholarship winners & last chance to apply!

We are delighted to announce the recipients of the inaugural Writing a Novel Scholarships being offered by Faber Academy at Allen & Unwin in Sydney and Melbourne. Sarah Price from Wahroonga in Sydney and Clementine Bendle-Thompson from North Melbourne will each have a free place on the flagship six-month Writing a Novel courses in Sydney and Melbourne.

The high quality of the applicants as well as the range of voices and subjects they addressed were impressive, which made deciding on the winners difficult.

The judges believe that 22-year-old Clementine Bendle-Thompson’s writing has great wit and charm. Her novel-in-progress engages with questions of Australian history, loyalty and family inheritance. Carrie Tiffany, tutor for the Writing a Novel course in Melbourne, said Clementine has ‘an energetic and compelling voice’.

‘Vivid, direct and emotionally charged’ is how James Bradley, tutor for Writing a Novel in Sydney, described Sarah Price’s writing. Sarah, a part-time high school English teacher, is currently working on a Young Adult novel.

Carrie TiffanyThe Writing a Novel course starts in Sydney and Melbourne on 11 March, and Carrie Tiffany recently gave an insight into the course for Time Out Melbourne.

If you want a full insight into the process of writing a novel and getting it published, from our tutors who range from authors to editors and publishers, sign up soon as places are limited as our True Stories course has already sold out.
